Everyone knows R&B singer Alicia Keys for her powerful voice; she has won numerous Grammys for her songs that, as she says, are inspirational and send uplifting messages to her fans. Also a self-proclaimed fashionista, Alicia has announced that she will be launching a jewelry and watch collection that will feature these same types of inspirational messages.

The line is called “The Barber’s Daughters” and features silver and gemstone pieces with quotes and poetry from such inspirational figures as Gandhi, Buddha and Shakespeare. One example is a sterling silver cuff that has the words “I’m a superwoman!” inscribed on it. These words were penned by the singer herself.

The line goes on sale in 2010 and will be sold through “Collette Blanchard Gallery in a temporary ‘pop-up’ shop on Manhattan’s lower east side. The pieces range from necklaces and earrings, to watches, cuffs and bracelets and are priced from $85 to $2,500.”

Keys has teamed up with Canadian designer Gisele Theriault to launch this line. According to Theriault, the name of the line, “The Barber’s Daughters”, comes from growing up in the small coastal town of Cape Breton in Canada, where your name meant nothing, but who your family was meant everything.

Although a full description of this line has not been given, it’s assumed that the jewelry and the watches will be geared toward women. The women’s watches are sure to be cool and funky and if set with gemstones will be jewelry watches. Such watches will also be considered jewelry watches if they are engraved with words, as they are promised to be.

In an interview with Reuters Television Keys said “My favorite part about them (the jewelry and watches) was not only were they individual, one of a kind, something you would really cherish and hold but the words on them affected me so personally, they uplifted me, it made me feel good, want to hold it and wear it like a mantra.”

The timing of the launch of “The Barber’s Daughters” coincides with the release of Alicia’s new album, “The Element of Freedom,” on December 15.
