Five Celebrities and Their Favorite Watches

One sign of a celebrity’s fame is the kind of watch they wear. Rolex or Christian Dior on a celebrity’s wrist means they’ve made it to the “million dollar club.” Timex means they haven’t. Most celebs have a favorite luxury watch that they love to wear or endorse, gaining publicity for themselves and the watch brand.

Here is a list of five celebrities and the watches that they love to wear and endorse:

Diane Kruger Jaeger LeCoultre Rendezvous

Diane Kruger – Jaeger-LeCoultre Rendezvouz Ladies Watch

Diane Kruger has been brand ambassador for Swiss watchmaker Jauger-LeCoultre since 2009. She wears the Rendezvous ladies watch. Available in pink-gold or stainless steel, the watch exudes a feminine elegance that was inspired by Diane Kruger. Says the brand on its official website: “Her innate grace, her cosmopolitan spirit and her choices inspired the feminine world of Jaeger-LeCoultre.” This watch is truly beautiful, with a diamond-set illuminated bezel, 1930s Art Deco inspired numerals set upon a guilloché dial, and a sapphire crystal case-back.

Jennifer Aniston – Rolex Datejust

It is well known in Hollywood that Jennifer Aniston is a “Rolex-only” kind of girl. There are hundreds of pictures of her out on the town with a Rolex on her wrist. Although she has been photographed wearing a black Rolex Daytona, it is clear that her yellow gold Rolex Datejust is her favorite. Her Rolex Day-Date is an 18-carat yellow gold piece with a fluted bezel and a champagne colored dial.

Leonardo DiCaprio – TAG Heuer Carrera

Brand Ambassador for “Swiss avant-garde” watch manufacturer TAG Heuer, Leonardo DiCaprio loves to sport the TAG Heuer Carrera timepiece. With a Calibre 16 Automatic Chronograph powering the watch, it’s a perfect match for motor racing and other fast-paced sports. Both DiCaprio and TAG Heuer share a common goal of environmental sustainability.

Charlize Theron has moved from the ads of Christian Dior’s “J’adore” perfume to the Christian Dior VII watch. This watch is extravagant to the extreme. With a white ceramic and steel casing and diamonds set into an opaline and silver dial, it’s hard to decide which is more beautiful – the watch or Charlize Theron.

Kate Winslet wears Longines Dolcevita

Kate Winslet – Longines Dolcevita

Kate Winslet has Longines “ambassadress of Elegance” since 2010.  Swiss watch brand Longines, established in 1832, has had many celebrity ambassadors including tennis player Andre Agassi, Australian actor Simon Baker, and Indian Beauty Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, but it could be argued that Kate Winslet is the most elegant face to wear their watches. She wears the Longines Dolcevita, an elegantly designed timepiece that was inspired by the easy-going Italian way of life – la dolce vita. Everything about this watch has femininity to it: its rectangular stainless steel and pink gold case and bracelet, its tear drop hour markers, and pink hour and minute hands.

Porsche Family Donates Luxury Watches

Written by Debbie. Posted in News

The actual, real Porsche family must be large and generous because members recently donated 49 women’s luxury watches and men’s watches to London-based auctioneer Bonhams. All proceeds from these sales will go to benefit the Oncology Research Department of the Robert Bosch Hospital in Stuttgart, Germany.Porsche_logo

If you look at the Porsche logo you’ll notice that the name Stuttgart is emblazoned on it; that’s because although many people may mistake this luxury automobile manufacturer to be Italian, its origins are German and the company is based in Stuttgart, Germany.

Some of the luxury watches that were sold came from well-known brands like Panerai, Eterna, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre, Breitling, Omega Watches and even some from the watch branch of Porsche called Porsche Design. The estimated total value for these 49 watches is about $170,000.

Panerai watches are some of the most coveted in the watch industry. They are not mass produced and only recently have become commonly available in the U.S. Their extra large faces and simple, classic designs have made them extremely popular men’s watches.

porschedesignwatchTAG Heuer is the one watch brand that has a partnership with Porsche and produces a Carrera and Grand Carrera line. Panerai has a partnership with Ferrari, while Breitling and Bentley have joined hands.

Breitling is a brand that has been around for a long time and although started out and remains dedicated to producing men’s watches for aviation pilots, Breitling watches have become quite the status symbol as well.

Audemars Piguet, Omega watches and Jaeger LeCoultre are other brands which all have strong footing in the luxury watch world and will be hot items at this auction which takes place on December 2, 2009.

Aside from luxury watches, there will be other items for sale; the full list totals 280 items. Although the auction will take place in London you can register online at Bonhams.com.

The New Metasonic Watch by Gerald Genta that Plays Music!

Written by Debbie. Posted in News

Charles Gérald Genta was born in 1931 in Geneva, Switzerland and is quite a hip guy. Even the Gerald Genta website is snazzy; more like watching a movie than about viewing the watches. With words like “provocative, non conformist, and daring” flashing across the screen, that’s exactly what you get with a Gerald Genta watch.Gerald Genta_MetaSonic

Perhaps most known for the Grande Sonnerie watch which was produced in 1994 and at that time considered to be the world’s most complicated wristwatch and valued at $1 million dollars, Genta keeps on impressing.

Another one of his creations which debuted in 1994 was the Arena Grande Sonnerie collection. This exclusive series of watches was dubbed the Arena Metasonic  and since ’94 has undergone multiple revisions and updates that keep making it cooler and cooler, hence the newly released one pictured here.

This large watch, it comes with a 46mm case made from titanium and a special metal acoustic alloy, obviously tells time but it also plays music!

Featuring a combination of vertical-polished and horizontal satin-brushed surfaces and an ostrich leather strap, the Arena Metasonic watch brings in the true magic of cutting-edge innovation to your wrist. This new Arena Metasonic offers a selection of audio themed complications in two separate areas. First is the minute repeater function, which, on command, will play back the time using the sounds of gongs and hammers, and you can adjust the style / volume, so to speak.

Gerald-Genta-Arena-Metasonic-backThe second way is through the watch case which has been crafted to help each note sound loud and clear. This “music” made by these sonnerie watches is due to the extremely complex cases and the metals used to construct them with have reverberating qualities.

These sounds occur at every hour or quarter hour but if you like you may silence them (there is a feature for that). This is one of the few water resistant sonnerie watches, which is quite a feat given all the levers and pushers on the case. The case itself is done in the signature “Potter finish” invented by Gerald Genta.

The manually wound movement is visible through the two sapphire crystals and contains almost 1,000 pieces. The movement also has a tourbillon complication visible on the dial while the time itself is shown in an off-centered position.

Scary Skull Watch by Bell & Ross

Written by Debbie. Posted in Men's Watches

Although Swiss watch company Bell & Ross did not make the BR-01 Airborne 415 watch for Halloween, it sure fits the occasion. The watch debuted at Baselworld 2009 to great acclaim. The skull design pays tribute to the type of aviation professionals that Bell & Ross caters to. This limited edition BR-01 Airborne 415 watch combines military credence with Haute Joellerie, as the skulls of these watches are studded in diamonds.Bell_Ross_ BR 01 Airborne 415 The skull itself is a symbol that has become adopted by divisions within the U.S. military; its motto “death from above” is used by courageous paratroopers when in action. The limited edition BR-01 Airborne 672 also has this same look. Only 99 of each of these watch collections will be produced. The difference in and name of each collection has to do with the number of diamonds on the watch case. Both dials are paved in natural white diamonds, while 259 full-cut round diamonds are set by hand to fill the shape of the skull. On the Airborne 415 watches there are 156 black diamonds set on the bone-shaped bezel that compliment the dial, while on the Airborne 672, there are 413 black diamonds which cover the watch’s entire face. Both watch collections comes with the new version of Bell & Ross’s wide strap made of black shagreen, which is made with natural grained galuchat. Galuchat comes from the leather of sting rays and actually consists of hundreds of tiny ivory beads that offer a unique, exotic, and luxurious glossy finish. If you prefer the traditional black rubber strap found on many Bell & Ross watches, you may have the shagreen one switches out. All watches are water resistant to 100 meters, and although these exclusive collections are more luxurious looking due to the white and black diamonds, they still function as seriously and professionally as any other B&R watch.

Romain Jerome Delivers a Watch Made with Moon Dust

Written by Debbie. Posted in Fashion Watches

They look like something found in sunken ship, inside the treasure box. Like something that pirates wore. They are watches made by the boutique French brand called Romain Jerome. Jerome achieved fame in the watch world when he launched his Titanic DNA collection, a series of watches that are partly made from stabilized rusted steel sourced from the infamous Titanic.Romain Jerome Moon watch

The creativity and horological know-how behind these watches is incredible. Romain takes materials like rust and coal and now moon dust and coats the bezels and dials of his watches with them.

The collection is called Moon Dust – DNA and there are four models: the Gold Mood, Steel Mood, Black Mood and Steel with gem-set diamonds. Each model is produced in a limited series of 1,969 pieces.

The Steel Mood (as pictured here) has a case crafted from finely polished stainless steel and a bezel made from tiny fragments of carbon fiber found on the Apollo XI spacecraft. The strap is partially composed of materials gathered from an ISS spacesuit and is connected to the case with signature Romain Jerome lugs – lugs that are capped with star screws. It’s the dial that’s especially impressive and magical. Made from a mineral composite, including real fragments of material found on the moon, it genuinely looks like the moon’s landscape and gives a three dimensional sense of craters. The RJ logo is found at the 12 o’clock position and small seconds are indicated at the 9 o’clock position by a metal structure. The hour and minute hands are made to look like sun sensors found on space crafts that are sent to the moon.

This watch runs on a caliber from the specialty firm Concepto and has a power reserve of 42 hours. This watch, as with the others in the Moon Dust – DNA collection is water resistant to 50 meters.

In addition to using actual moon dust in his watches, Romain Jerome also employs rust and graphite (the chemical name for coal). These materials and application techniques are a first in watch-making and are used to give the watches a dark, magical look that makes it look as though it really did come from a sunken treasure.

Piaget Polo 45 Chronograph Gets Paraded Around Town

Written by Debbie. Posted in Men's Watches

The Polo FortyFive Chronograph by Piaget is a luxury sports watch, which is not the type that most people associate the Piaget brand with. Piaget is most known for producing high-end men’s and women’s watches and jewelry. Founded in 1874 by a man whose last name was lent to the brand.Piaget Polo 45

So, now Piaget is spreading the word that it too deserves to be known as a producer of luxury sports watches and is doing so by getting high profile athletes to simply wear the watch and be seen. Not a bad deal for anyone involved.

Piaget recently gave one of their Polo 45 Chronographs to Fernando Torres, the well known Spanish soccer player who plays for both the Liverpool and Spanish national teams. Torres, a handsome guy will wear the watch when out in public and Piaget is hoping that people will notice, want one and then buy one. Whether Torres is being paid is unknown but since each of these sporty luxury watches sells for $17,900 we can assume that he’s happy just to get a free one.

The Polo FortyFive is named after the 45 minutes that a polo match lasts and showcases what is a “first” for Piaget – combining titanium, injected rubber and steel. The design has been purposely revamped from the other watches in this collection: new design, new curves, gadrooned screw-lock crown, rubber capped push pieces and crown, black PVD treated oscillating weight, triple folding clasp with safety mechanisms and summer / winter positions. The grade 5 titanium that was selected for the case is the only type that can be polished.

The Piaget Polo 45 Chronograph is handsome and stylish. The 45mm sized case is made out of titanium and has a sporty silver dial, index markers, and a rubber strap with steel hinges. The automatic movement is manufactured in-house with a flyback chronograph and second time zone GMT function, sweep seconds, and big date complication. The bracelet is crafted from stainless steel, titanium and rubber. The Piaget Polo FortyFive Chronograph watch is water resistant to 100 meters.
