The Ulysse Nardin Classico Luna

Written by Debbie. Posted in Authentic Watches, Fashion Watches, Luxury Watches, Men's Watches, News, Style Watches, Watch Brands, Women's Watches

Using the Moon as inspiration, Ulysse Nardin designed a new watch to represent the phases of the moon in a watch the looks like a classic timepiece.

The Classico Luna watch does not seem like a special watch from a distance. In fact even from up-close it looks like an ordinary watch. One would think its only value and selling point is that it was designed by a high end luxury watchmaker.

However the main selling point of the Luna watch comes from its inspiration not any over the top appearance.

The Classico Luna watch features a moon phase disc that rotates around the center of the clock face every 12 hours. As it moves around the clock face the moon disc changes colors to show the phases of the moon following the moons 29.5 day cycle.

If course somehow the disc representing the moon is off by a fraction or by a day, you can easily adjust it by the correctors located in-between 5 and 6’ o’clock.

The slim design of the Luna watch compliments it perfectly. While most other watches feature thick cases and over the top mechanisms, the Luna not only emphasizes its main feature (the moon disc), but the simple classic design does not distract you from that main feature.

The men’s clock face features Roman Numerals. The date is shown in a circle at 6 o’clock. The clock hands are a slim line. However the hour hands head is shaped like a water droplet. A nice feature on the hour hand is that it features a detailed engraving of the Sun on it. A very appealing detail I must say, perfectly complimenting the rotating moon disc on the watch.

The Luna has been designed for both men and women. The men’s version comes in roman numerals as mentioned above. The women’s version comes with diamond indices instead of roman numerals.

Luna Men’s Version
• 40mm case
• Roman Numeral indices
• Silver and black dial design
• Stainless steel or 18k Gold
• Optional deployment clasp
• $8,500-$45,000 (price varies due to extra features such as a rose gold bracelet and diamond bezels/lugs.)

Luna Women’s Version
• 35mm case
• Diamond bezel/lugs and mother of pearl dial.
• Stainless steel or 18k Gold
• $8,900-$17,800 (depending on extra features)

The Classico Luna’s simple design makes it both quiet affordable and wearable. You can wear it both on formal and informal occasions. It is neither over the top luxurious nor cheap looking. The Luna is a truly versatile watch.

The New Bovet Pininfarina Cambiano watch

Written by Debbie. Posted in Authentic Watches, Fashion Watches, Luxury Watches, Men's Watches, News, Style Watches, Watch Brands

What happens when you bring together Swiss and Italian watchmakers?

You get the Bovet Pininfarina Cambiano watch. A watch unique to both companies yet designed to show each company’s style.

The Cambano watch was designed along the lines of Bovet’s Amadeo case style. What is unique about the Amadeo cases is that you can detach the straps on the watch and turn it into a pocket watch or pendant watch using a chain that can be bought along with the watch.

The watch is made of steel and is 45mm wide. The case is circular with the thickness giving the watch an appearance of a small can. The backside of the watch has a clear crystal so you can see the gears involved in running the watch.

The clock hands are triangular in design and the second hand has a unique snake like serpentine design. The hour indices are not marked by numbers, instead they are noted by black lines. All of the hands are treated with a luminescent material making them visible in low light conditions.

The crystals on the clock face and back are a very high quality AR coated sapphire crystal. The crystal is so clear that you often forget that there is a crystal there. You get the urge to stick your finger into the watch to play with the dials only to have your fingers press against the super clear crystal.

The movement system is based on the Valjoux 7750 system. However Bovet and Pininfarina added their own unique parts to the system, changing the style of the set up. Nevertheless the main driving mechanism is based on the trusted Valjoux 7750 so you can be assured that the watch is not completely running on a newly designed system, which might break down on you.

The Cambiano is, like nearly all high end luxury watches, limited edition. There will only be a certain number produced and as new sets of Bovet and Pininfarina watches come out each year, the supply inevitably depends on the demand.

The price of the Cambano is roughly $24,200. Although the price is very high it is as expected for a high end collaboration between two luxury watch makers. What is laughable about this edition is that the chain used to turn the watch into a pocket watch is sold separately. You would think that the chain would come with the watch since you’re paying more than 24 thousand for it. But I don’t think those who can afford this watch would be bothered by any additional purchases.

Here is a video review of the Cambiano.

The Tissot Seastar 1000 Automatic Professional Chronograph Valjoux

Written by Debbie. Posted in Authentic Watches, Fashion Watches, Luxury Watches, Men's Watches, News, Style Watches, Watch Brands

Tissot the luxury Swiss watchmaker recently released the Tissot Seastar 1000 Automatic Professional Chronograph Valjoux. Fusing design with technology the Seastar 1000 allows for action packed adventures as well as calm and relaxed occasions.

The design of the Seastar 1000 was based around the concept of a diver. The Seastar’s main selling point is its ability to go down to a pressure of 30 bars. That’s around 1,000ft below sea level, more than enough for professional divers.

The 1000 features a divers buckle and extension making it easy for divers to handle the watch. The indexes as well as the clock hands are coated with SupeLuminova allowing for visibility deep under the surface of the sea.

A unique feature of the Seastar 1000 family is that the watches come with their own helium valve which automatically depressurizes the watch, a lifesaving feature. What could be worse for a diver than diving deep down into the sea and thinking your good on time only to find out that the pressure has damaged your watch and you won’t have enough time to go back up.

The case of the 1000 is made of stainless steel .The clock face is a sapphire crystal coated with anti reflective material. The bracelet is rubber and can extend to adjust to the users wrist size. The back of the watch has a clear sapphire crystal that allows the user to view the mechanisms that drive the watch. A total of 25 jewels make up the gears that run the watch.

The watch has two push down buttons on the left side to control the timers. The indexes representing the time and the seconds are engraved on. The craftsmanship shows up through such small details on the watch.

An automatic movement system drives the 1000. The movement is based on the Valjoux 7750 Chronograph, a highly proven and dependable mechanism used by most luxury watches and watchmakers.

Dimensions and Weight
• Width= 49mm
• Height=49mm
• Thickness= 18.37mm
• Weight=167g

There will only be 1000 pieces of the Seastar sold. Each will go for about $2250. The price is quite high but then again the watch was made for professional divers.

Overall the Seastar 1000 is a well-made watch for professional divers. Built with the highest grade materials and the famous Valjoux 7750, the 1000 provides everything necessary for you to go down into the sea and explore without the worry of a watch that might break on you or give you incorrect information.

Five Celebrities and Their Favorite Watches

Written by Debbie. Posted in Authentic Watches, Fashion Watches, Luxury Watches, Men's Watches, Style Watches, Watch Brands, Women's Watches

Five Celebrities and Their Favorite Watches

One sign of a celebrity’s fame is the kind of watch they wear. Rolex or Christian Dior on a celebrity’s wrist means they’ve made it to the “million dollar club.” Timex means they haven’t. Most celebs have a favorite luxury watch that they love to wear or endorse, gaining publicity for themselves and the watch brand.

Here is a list of five celebrities and the watches that they love to wear and endorse:

Diane Kruger Jaeger LeCoultre Rendezvous

Diane Kruger – Jaeger-LeCoultre Rendezvouz Ladies Watch

Diane Kruger has been brand ambassador for Swiss watchmaker Jauger-LeCoultre since 2009. She wears the Rendezvous ladies watch. Available in pink-gold or stainless steel, the watch exudes a feminine elegance that was inspired by Diane Kruger. Says the brand on its official website: “Her innate grace, her cosmopolitan spirit and her choices inspired the feminine world of Jaeger-LeCoultre.” This watch is truly beautiful, with a diamond-set illuminated bezel, 1930s Art Deco inspired numerals set upon a guilloché dial, and a sapphire crystal case-back.

Jennifer Aniston's Yellow Gold Rolex Datejust

Jennifer Aniston – Rolex Datejust

It is well known in Hollywood that Jennifer Aniston is a “Rolex-only” kind of girl. There are hundreds of pictures of her out on the town with a Rolex on her wrist. Although she has been photographed wearing a black Rolex Daytona, it is clear that her yellow gold Rolex Datejust is her favorite. Her Rolex Day-Date is an 18-carat yellow gold piece with a fluted bezel and a champagne colored dial.

Leonardo DiCaprio wearing TAG Heuer

Leonardo DiCaprio – TAG Heuer Carrera

Brand Ambassador for “Swiss avant-garde” watch manufacturer TAG Heuer, Leonardo DiCaprio loves to sport the TAG Heuer Carrera timepiece. With a Calibre 16 Automatic Chronograph powering the watch, it’s a perfect match for motor racing and other fast-paced sports. Both DiCaprio and TAG Heuer share a common goal of environmental sustainability.

Charlize Theron has moved from the ads of Christian Dior’s “J’adore” perfume to the Christian Dior VII watch. This watch is extravagant to the extreme. With a white ceramic and steel casing and diamonds set into an opaline and silver dial, it’s hard to decide which is more beautiful – the watch or Charlize Theron.

Kate Winslet wears Longines Dolcevita

Kate Winslet is brand ambassador for Longines Dolcevita

Kate Winslet – Longines Dolcevita

Kate Winslet has Longines “ambassadress of Elegance” since 2010.  Swiss watch brand Longines, established in 1832, has had many celebrity ambassadors including tennis player Andre Agassi, Australian actor Simon Baker, and Indian Beauty Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, but it could be argued that Kate Winslet is the most elegant face to wear their watches. She wears the Longines Dolcevita, an elegantly designed timepiece that was inspired by the easy-going Italian way of life – la dolce vita. Everything about this watch has femininity to it: its rectangular stainless steel and pink gold case and bracelet, its tear drop hour markers, and pink hour and minute hands.

The 4N MVT01

Written by Debbie. Posted in Authentic Watches, Fashion Watches, Luxury Watches, Men's Watches, News, Style Watches, Watch Brands

With a digital style setting in a mechanical frame, the 4N-MVT01/42 easily stands out amongst the crowd.

Created by the French designer Francois Quentin, the 4N brand first took shape back in 2009, but was not fully developed until 2011. Upon the 4N’s release it quickly became known as one of the world’s most unique designs.

The 4N features a 12 hour display that changes due to Four rotating discs. Four discs indicate the hour, 5 discs indicate minutes and one disc indicates seconds. To make it easy on the eyes, a golden colored rectangle surrounds the time. This outlining is very useful because the other rotating numbers are visible on the watch and without a border showing the numbers  you could easily confuse the time.

The body of the watch is quite large, as are most unique luxury watches. However the 4N is designed in a rectangular case. Think of it as a small little widescreen TV on your wrist. Of course a TV that only shows you the time.

The case is constructed with aluminum and titanium alloys, making it a very sturdy watch.

The movement employs a jump style mechanism to move the discs. With a constant force the mechanism reduces the amount of energy needed to run the watch. The power reserve for the 4N is estimated to be about 237 hours.

Technical Information
• Jumping minutes and hours
• Digital style display by discs
• Double barrels
• Screwed balance D:9.12mm
• Breguet Overcoil balance-spring
• Cadence: 21 600 ALT/hour
• 520 parts
• 86 Jewels
• Power reserve 237 hours
• Finishing: all parts finely decorated

There will only be 16 of these watches produced, available in either 18 carat white gold or platinum. The price has not yet been revealed but with its design and its grade, the 4N will definitely be one of those watches that will come with a golden price tag.

The Dior Chiffre Rouge M05

Written by Debbie. Posted in Authentic Watches, Fashion Watches, Luxury Watches, Men's Watches, News, Style Watches, Watch Brands

Christian Dior, the French design and apparel company recently released a new edition to its Chiffre Rouge collection. The Dior Chiffre Rouge M05 blends simplicity with luxury.

The M05 comes in all black or half red. The case is steel and coated with rubber. This edition has a geometric rotor on the dial.

There is a translucent mineral crystal on the back of the case, allowing for a full view of the mechanisms that run the watch.

The hour dial controller is actually encrusted with crystals, an extra luxury but somewhat unnecessary. But then again it is a luxury watch.

Dior has not yet released all the details for the M05. Like most newly released luxury watches the price has also not yet been released. But judging by the brands history and this particular edition the watch will definitely be high up on the price range.

The M05’s design is simple, the only thing that makes the watch stand out are the colors (black and blood red).

Everything else is quite ordinary, except for the fact that it is a Dior.

The Hublot Oceanographic 4000 King Gold White

Written by Debbie. Posted in Authentic Watches, Fashion Watches, Luxury Watches, Men's Watches, Style Watches, Watch Brands

After 18 months of research and testing, Hublot, the Swiss watch maker released one of its most prized technical creations, the Oceanographic 4000 King Gold White

The 4000’s main selling point is its water resistance. The watche’s technical achievements are its ability to be taken down to a depth of 4000 meters (2.5 miles), hence the name Oceanographic 4000.

Hublot achieved this by using synthetic and extremely high quality materials.
• The case is made of grade 2 titanium
• The clock face crystal is made of a 6.5mm thick synthetic sapphire crystal
• The case is mixed in with King Gold. The reddish color of the watch is due to a mix of 18k gold with 5% of platinum.
• A 48 mm diameter case

The 4000 has been treated with a luminescent material. Its clock hands; which are enlarged, are treated with SuperLuminova, a material that emits a glowing white color, enabling visibility at a distance of 25 center meters from the eyes, even at 4000 meters below the surface of the sea.

With large dials on the right side of the body the watch can be handled even with gloves, quiet essential for divers.

Also, the 4000 comes with an extra-long wrist strap. This was due purposely to accommodate for the thickness of a divers suit.

In the end the Hublot Oceanographic 4000 king Gold White is not a watch for everybody. It was designed mainly for divers. Of course collectors will be interested as well but for the average buyer this watch is a pass.

This watch has a limited production of 100 pieces. No price has been released but it will definitely be high up on the price range.

A History of Raymond Weil

Written by Debbie. Posted in Authentic Watches, Fashion Watches, Luxury Watches, Men's Watches, More News, News, Style Watches, Watch Brands

All though a fairly new company, Raymond Weil has established itself as one of the world’s finest watch makers.
The company takes its name from its founder Raymond Weil.

Weil, born in 1926 in Geneva Switzerland, joined the Geneva watch company at the age of 23. By 1976 when the watch industry was on a decline, Weil started his own company.

Raymond Weil used his experience to build his company over the years. Incorporating other family members into the company like his son-in-law, Oliver Bernheim. With an increased workforce both loyal and devoted, the Weil brand re-inspired the watch industry.
Weil marketed the brand along with cultural influences. Like their Amadeus collection released in 1983 along with the famous movie.
The Weil brand continued to adapt to changes in society, creating new and unique designs for both men and women.

Timeline
1976: Raymond Weil creates the company
1982: Weil’s son in law joins the company (Oliver Bernheim).
1983: The Amadeus collection launched
1986: Othello collection released
1988: Traviata collection released
1991: Parsaifal collection released
1994: Precision Movements campaign consolidated with Raymond Weil
1996: W1 collection released
1999: The Celebrate the Movement campaign consolidated with Raymond Weil
2001-03: New Othello and Parsaifal collections
2006: Weil’s grandsons join the company (Elie and Pierre Bernheim)
2009: Ladies Noemia collection
2010: Maestro collection released

The Greatest contribution to the watch world that Raymond Weil has given is itself. The founder started the company at a time when the watch industry seemed to be dying out. The company proved that if you could create luxurious watches both unique and simple then you could survive. Weil watches are neither over the top in design nor bland and unoriginal. They can be worn anytime of the day and on any occasion, both formal or informal. The brands success proves that a watch company can be succesfull even if their watches are simple in design.

The Future of Nooka Timepieces – Zub 40 a Watch to Look Out For

Written by Debbie. Posted in Authentic Watches, Fashion Watches, Men's Watches, Style Watches, Watch Brands, Women's Watches

Written by: Catherine Wolinski

The future of timepieces is here. Nooka Inc., a New York design company most known for its innovative wristwatches, has recently introduced its newest addition to the Zub family.

Nooka Nootrals Original

The original Zub watch for Nooka Nootrals

The Nooka brand, though not well known or sold in major stores, has received considerable attention since its creation in Dec. 2004.  With its first client as the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and current collaboration with companies like Nickelodeon, MTV, and the counter-culture toy store, KidRobot, the brand’s unique approach to timepieces in particular has caught the attention of artists, rappers, and everyday watch fans.

Structured around Nooka’s guiding principles that combine functionality with a futuristic philosophy, the Zub collection follows the company’s creative strategy with its simple appearance.  Also referred to as the “Nooka Nootrals,” the new product employs neutral colors and

monochromatic schemes said to promote the brand values of customizable mood and style. The newest piece, the Zub 40, takes this founding idea to the next level by introducing four color schemes and interchangeable bands.

“I thought if one has to be taught how to tell time, how intuitive is it really?  Surely there are other models, once learned, that can be as intuitive as what we are taught,” says chief designer and founder, Matthew Waldman.

Waldman instills a core set of values in his brand: Universal communication, passion, interaction, purpose, inspiration, and most prominently, futurism.  The products—which also include accessories such as belts and wallets—follow this “Nookafesto” which necessitates every product be a physical manifestation of an idea that surpasses ordinary expectations of everyday objects.

“Nooka changes how we experience technology by placing it in new contexts,” the manifesto states. “The futurist believes that this process always results in progress. Nooka is a futurist brand.”

With a concept that was born in London, first produced in Japan, and is now headquartered in New York City with an office in Tokyo, the Nooka fashion design company has built upon Waldman’s initial theory by creating an eclectic universe of conceptual products that are both pleasing to the eye and enlightening to the mind. Whether you’re looking for a new way to look at time, or are just in need of a new watch, the future is clear—visit Nooka’s website to pick out an accessory that breaches the concept of time as we know it.
